City of Mesa
The first settlers in Mesa were probably the Hohokam, who made life on the arid landscape of the region possible by developing an extensive canal system.  Much later, Spanish missionaries and soldiers traveled through the area. Then, several groups of Mormon, or Latter Day Saints, pioneers settled in the area. Over time, residents from other areas of the Valleyof the Sun and further afield also moved into Mesa, increasing its population further.
Mesa is the third-largest city in Arizona and the nation’s 38th-largest city and is rapidly growing with more than 450,000 residents. The City provides the advantages of a thriving metropolis while maintaining the feel of a suburban environment. Just 15 miles east of Phoenix, Mesa covers 128 square miles.
In Mesa, the focus of K-12 education is “choice.” The city is home to the largest school district in the state and its school system has 10,000 employees. Both public and private schools offer an array of educational options for primary and secondary students. The K-12 education system in Mesa includes public, as well as a number of private and parochial school systems. Charter schools, magnet schools, international baccalaureate programs, numerous parochial, Montessori, and other options typify Mesa's commitment to education. Mesa has 16 schools of higher learning including Arizona State University's Polytechnic Campus, Arizona School of Health Sciences (medical center) and Arizona School of  Health Sciences Dental School.
With dynamic recreational, educational and business environments, Mesa enjoys the best in a variety of amenities including parks within easy walking distance from home, a variety of sports facilities that cater to athletes young and old, highly rated golf courses for every skill level, a diversity of special events and community festivals, and Mesa’s ever-popular Chicago Cubs Spring Training baseball.
Major industries include Banner Health System, Boeing, Talley Defense Systems, and TRW Safety Systems.
Mesa is a great place to live, with a highly attractive lifestyle.  Events, activities, dining and shopping keep residents of Mesa
and its surrounding communities busy all year long.
